My friend just a bought a brand new imac. The apple store geniuses transferred files over and put his daughters name as the iMac name.
So now, in his home drive, its his daughters name not his. In the accounts section, he changed the my account admin to his name.
But when you make a change or install programs it ask for ur authentication and the dialog box shows his daughters misspelled name with password box.

Anyway to change the names to his without doing a fresh install or jeopardizing his files etc.
thanks

the Mac Observer article you found is the way to change the short a users short name which you will also have to do. I think your computer name can be changed in System Preferences/Sharing. The other article may work but is much more complicated and meant for previous versions of Mac OS X.
