Yesterday I got a new iPhone 4 and activated it at AT&T. As soon as I got in my car, I paired it with the Bluetooth. No problems, business as usual (worked perfectly for 2 years with my 3Gs). The name of the iPhone was a factory ID, so when I got home, I changed the name of the phone in iTunes.
After changing the name of the iPhone, it didn't connect automatically to my car like usual. So I went into the settings, and set them both to discoverable to find each other. They wouldn't. So I went to the list of phones that had been connected to my car, selected the previous name of this iPhone, and went to connect. My phone asked me for the PIN again, but I wasn't presented with one from my car and I couldn't remember what it was. After cancelling that, the old name of the iPhone disappeared from the list in my car. Then after multiple attempts of resets, restarts (of both the car and phone), neither of them will find each other in discoverable mode.
My guess is somehow the name of the iPhone is causing the confusion between the devices. I think both my phone and my car remember each other, and because of this they won't find each other in discoverable mode, but won't connect because of the name conflict. This makes things quite frustrating because I can't seem to find a way to remove a Bluetooth device in the iPhone without it actually being connected to the iPhone. I've done multiple searches all over the internet and can't seem to find a specific case like mine. Any help in this realm would be appreciated!!!
