When I enter a search argument in Safari, sometimes the result is unsatisfying and I want to return to the argument and add or subtract a few words, but I can't figure out how to "touch" the argument without inadvertently "clobbering" it and then having to re-type the whole thing (other than having "saved" the argument someplace when I first entered it). Any advice much appreciated!

This is Safari on a Mac question? Don’t know which search engine you are using but you can always enter your changes directly in the search field on the page instead of URL field at top.

Often in Safari, I will highlight the word or phrase that interests me first, and select “copy” to put it in the “paste buffer”. I will then re-select the word or phrase again, and select “search”.

If you have tweaked your search in the URL, just “copy” the URL to the past buffer prior to your search. No need to scroll back through your history to find your original search, just hit paste (cmd V) to restore your search.
