Recently upgraded to 10.6 and I'm finding that Preview opens pdfs at an annoyingly high zoom level. I'd like to change the preferences so that every time I open a pdf it opens withone page fitting perfectly on my laptop screen.

There doesn't seem to be a control for this in the preferences. I downloaded an app called "Pref Setter" so that I could get under the hood and change the default that controls this, but I can't tell which of the prefs I should be changing.

Surprisingly, there doesn't seem to be anything specifically addressing this issue on the innertoobz. Anyone know how to do this? Thanks!

Have you put a check mark in "Automatically Resize" under Previews View menu? Then set the prefs you want in preferences or drag the buttons you need into the Tool bar using "Customize Toolbar".

Thanks Pomeroy. Yes, I did try putting a check mark in "Automatically Resize", but that doesn't seem to have solved the problem. What I'm after is a fixed default page size that every .pdf opens with - anyone know how to accomplish that?

preview's default zoom

I don't know about 10.6, but with 10.58 in the prefs of preview, look at 'pdf' tab, then 'use scale of' and pick a suitable magnification. This has helped me, as I found everything too small everytime I opened a document.

It is the same in 10.6. As I said in my last post, putting a check mark in "Automatically Resize" doesn't do it alone, you have to go into Previews preferences and tell it how much you want it to "Automatically Resize" to. I would just put the "Scale" and "Actual Size" buttons in the tool bar for easy access.
