I've read that you can change the progress indicator in Safari from the address bar filling with blue to a pie-chart-like indicator. I've opened Terminal and tried 'defaults write com.apple.Safari DebugUsePieProgressIndicator -bool true' as instructed with no success after a restart and even a reboot.

Does anyone know if it is indeed possible or if I'm just doing something wrong?
 
I've done it successfully, although I'll admit I "cheated" and used a GUI tool (in my case, Secrets from the makers of Quicksilver) to do it. It was kinda "meh", IMO, but far be it from me to stop you trying it on for size. Hope that helps!
