Changing Search Engine

I want to change my search engine from Google to DuckDuckGo, I tick my choice in Safari settings, but Safari always stays on Google when I open up Safari. I am on iOS 8.0.2 iphone 5.

I may be totally lost here, but it sounds like you have your home page set to Google, thus that is what Safari opens to. I would think changing Safari's setting to something other than Google would only affect what search engine is used when you type something in the grey area in the center of the top line of Safari.

Yeah, it only changes what's used when you search something. Sounds like you just happen to have a tab with google.com in Safari.
