Apparently this process is different on Mavericks that previous versions of OS X whereby you had to replace 'LucidaGrande.ttc' in 'ProtectedFonts' as well as in 'System/Fonts' for it to work.

Mavericks no longer has 'ProtectedFonts' and now the .ttc collection in Mavericks has four fonts instead of two.

Anyone know what is safe to change?

Bump. This irritating. I updated today and I have been looking for the folder. The interesting thing is, I decided to delete my LucidaGrande in /System/Library/Fonts/ and relaunched the Finder. Some of my fonts (dialogue boxes, clock and desktop font) reverted to the Helvetica Neue from the 10.8 it upgraded from.

Still Looking. Any ideas?
