How do I change the short name (the one that is altogether, example: johnsmith) on a user account, specifically the administrator account? When I go to system preferences > users> that box is greyed out and won't let me change it.

I'm the only one who uses the computer, so there are no other users. I want to change the name because this computer was my late husband's, and it's his name on the short name - I want to change it to mine.

Some issues I encountered, in case anyone else ever runs into them:

I had no trouble creating a new user, but when it came time to deleting the old user, it wouldn't let me delete it while keeping the user's files in the trash. System preferences would freeze (funny!) every single time, and fail to delete the old user.

I had to select 'delete immediately' to delete the old user. Things seem to be fine now. The only other issue I had - my desktop background didn't carry over when I copied and transferred the user files. That's pretty minor though. Everything else seems to be intact.
