Changing the status light in the Network Preference Pane

I would like the red/yellow/green status lights next to each connection in the Network Preference Pane to be betermined by Internet connection status and not network connection status as it is now. It is driving me crazy that I have to go into "Assist me..." -> "Diagnostics" every time I want to check my Internet connection status.

Do you know if this can be changed? Thanks!

aren't they yellow if you have a link local (169.x) addy?

so aren't they green once you can resolve DNS?


either way, I don't think what you want can be changed without some significant under-the-hood tinkering
