Changing the view on Blender does not work.

I just started with Blender and ran into a roadblock right on page one.

The manual says you can scroll vertically while using the mouse wheel and press "shift":

Does not work. Nothing happens.

Horizontal scroll zooms the Apple screen.

In short: except zooming in and out I can't do anything - none of the instructions work.

I tried to reprogram the third button/mouse wheel but had to find out this is no longer possible in Snow Leopard.

How can I get "changing the view" work in Blender?

Solved:

In the mouse preferences I disabled: zoom.

In the Expose preferences I disabled the scroll wheel click.

Now the scroll wheel works in Blender.
