Yes, I've read plenty of thread on the net about this but I don't know if there's new or updated consensus on this issue. I've "hardened" my Mac (Leopard) by adding a new Admin account, then logging in as that account and *removing* admin rights from my normal daily-use user. That's all well and good.
But I've seen some suggestions that file/directory permissions need modding after you do this, notably in /Applications and /Library. But I've also heard that this doesn't end up working reliably - that "repair permissions" mucks them up eventually and that newly installed apps end up being owned by your limited user *even though* you are asked to give Admin credentials for the moment of install.
So, what's the truth? Did I gain ANY additional security by just the step I took of using a non-admin account?
