What in the world is going on with how to change wallpapers? I just want to change the Home Screen wallpaper. I don't want to have to create a entire new wallpaper set. Am I missing something? iOS 16 RC on 13 PM.

It is a bit more cumbersome, and iOS 16 no longer has a collection of still wallpapers that we’re used to.

If you want to use one of the default ones, then yes…you’d need to create a new set, but the Lock Screen would also have to be the same one that goes along with it.

If you want to use your own photo, then go to Settings->Wallpaper->Customize (on the right side, under the preview of the Home Screen)->Photos (at the bottom of the screen).

it is very confusing. If you just wish to change your Lockscreen wallpaper, while keeping your existing Home Screen wallpaper, you have to act as if you want to change the Home Screen wallpaper but then leave it as it is and it will continue to use the previous used wallpaper on the Home Screen. Also, you CANNOT pick a default wallpaper from the Apple Gallery for your Home Screen only for whatever stupid reason. You can only pick photos from your own photo library

Can you explain some more on this part, or give more detailed steps? No matter what I do to change the Lock Screen, it also changes my Home Screen.

I can guarantee you that "normal" people who never install beta and just update their phones when they're asked to will complain a lot about this and will hate it. The new lock screen feature feels like a cheap jailbreak tweak. Its overly complicated and confusing to change only the lock-screen or just the home screen plus its harder to adjust the wallpaper image itself because you can't move it with just one finger, you have to use 2 of them and be on the center area to actually register so good luck if you want to precisely move a picture to look the way you want.

Just because of all this crap I don't want to update my main phone to iOS 16.

Settings > Wallpaper

Customise (on the right, home screen)

Next you need to pick "Photos" in the little circle at the bottom. Like I said previously, you cannot choose a photo from the Apple Gallery, only from your own photo library

but yes, over all the whole wallpaper set up is stupid. For instance, why does it show the LOCKSCREEN image in the circle on the left when you tapped "edit HOME SCREEN", it should show your current HOME SCREEN image, not the LOCK SCREEN wallpaper. Also there is no "dismiss" button so if you do not want to change anything, you basically have to kill the settings app to go back.

Thanks, that's what I suspected you meant, but maybe your original post is mis-worded? I still haven't figured out how to change the Lock Screen only (without having to reselect the photo to use for the Home Screen), which is what your original post sounded like.

It seems that we can only:
1) Change the Home Screen (and leave the Lock Screen alone)
2) Change the Lock Screen, which also changes the Home Screen (unless you find and reselect your photo again).

Appears so. You cannot change the lock screen (to an image of your choosing) while leaving the home screen alone.

Bit of a retrograde step.

Once again, Apple takes a huge step back on something that used to work just fine.

I hate it. I had a very nice home screen wallpaper separate from my lock screen and now I can't set it that way anymore. So stupid.
