I was wondering if it would hurt anything to put the extension cable, like comes with the other MacBooks to the charger on the new macbook? i saw its rated for 45w and up so that shouldn't matter for this. This cable won't reach my plug in the wall and I have an extra one.

I think those cords are the same for all the Apple chargers, including the 85W chargers. You're fine.
