Can you charge your iPhone in a case? I have a 6 Plus and was curious about prolonging battery life, and I stumbled across the Apple website and it said to remove from a case before charging.

Do you guys do that? I have a dual layer case on and it's a real hassle to remove on and off each time I charge.

I never take the case off. That's why it has an opening for the cable. I have the Apple leather case.

It would be a pain to take off my apple silicone case everyday just to charge. It already shows wear and tear after taking it off and one a few times.

Just make sure you charge it in room temp or anyway not too hot.

Previous place that I worked at had company iPhones. They said that it was best to charge the phone outside of the case due to heat retention shortening the battery life.

Not sure how accurate their advice was.

I think that Apple is just covering their butts on the off chance that a case causes some kind of overheating while charging, but that seems very unlikely to occur unless your phone or your charger is defective.

In terms of battery life you're better off just not using the phone when it is charging - it can get a little warm using the phone with it connected to a charger --- but people do this all the time these days and it won't significantly harm your battery.

Battery life is a hot topic --- leaving your phone in the hot sun in a car will have a 100x worse effect than charging with a case on. I wouldn't worry bout charging with a case. Worry about letting the battery go below 20%. Worry about leaving it on a charger 24/7 for days at a time. Cross those two off and just enjoy your phone. By the time you get anywhere near 80% of capacity, it should be 2+ years and you'll be looking for a new phone.

If you wanna be super OCD --- Try to keep battery between 40-80% for optimal usage. Don't use an iPad charger to charge your phone - use the 1amp iPhone charger.

I've always just left the case on. The only time I've ever had heat problems (i.e. The heat warning went off) with my iPhone was when I was listening to music outside and left it sitting in direct sunlight in the middle of summer. It wasn't charging at the time. If you don't do that you should be fine.
