iPod Charging iPod Shuffle

I have just bought an iPod Shuffle 1GB,
I left it charging for about 8 hours on my Imac,
I used it for about 3 hours today and it has stoped working
I cheaked the battery indicator light and it is red.

It says that the shuffle can be charged in 4 hours on USB2
my mac has a USB1.

Is this normal or should I be worried ?

Is the USB port on your Mac a powered port? If it is then you have a faulty iPod. If not, then all it will do is sit there and lose charge gradually until you use it and then it will go flat.

Ensure the port on your Mac is powered and try it again. If it doesn't work then it's time to make a phonecall to Apple.

Reading this profile of your machine (G3 Imac DV+ (450mhz 640mb ram) in your sig) it states the following:

You cannot plug the iPod shuffle directly into the iMac's USB port - it will not fit. It will not charge if plugged into a keyboard USB port or an unpowered USB hub. To charge it while using it with your iMac, you must us a USB extension cable, powered USB hub, iPod shuffle dock, or a USB power adapter.

I have the same issue on my G3 iMac and either use an extension cable, my iBook or a USB wall charger I got from Apple.

Do you have an AirPort Express?

You can charge it on the USB port on that.

It's unsupported, but even Apple Support says it works...

Another thing to check is to see if the iMac stays "awake".

At least with my iBook, when it sleeps, the USB ports won't charge the shuffle.

Thanks, I am using a G3 iMac and I'm also using the keyboard USB,

I pluged it in to my G3 keyboard through the USB and a blue light has
come on, so it has power, I pluged my iPod Shuffle into one of the USB
hubs on the 'Rock' and the orange light on my iPod Shuffle has come
on and has stayed on which it wasn't doing before.

Is this ment to happen ?
Does it mean it's charging ?

yes, but i'd recommend plugging it into a usb port on the side of your imac, if you have a free port.

Is the Hub also plugged into the wall? I assume it is as that solid orange light indicates that it is charging. When you have the shuffle plugged in and iTunes running the light should blink, when you eject it by clicking on the little eject button it should change to a solid light. Leave the shuffle plugged in after you eject it in iTunes and when it's charged that light will change from orange to green.

Well this is the strange part, The Rock comes with an electrical plug to plug into a power point, but I have not used it, I just pluged the 'Rock' into the USB Plug in my Keyboard and it's blue light came on, so I pluged my Shuffle into it and it started iTunes and the blinking orange light came on then it stayed on and it worked, my Shuffle is fully charged. It was only $29aus. it's a great buy as it has 4 ports for USB2.
