no i do not think so... usb 2 has a power source... i only think usb1 is for transferring files you will need to buy the adapter to charge... maybe i am wrong and hopefully i am wrong so you can charge your ipod through your comp :cool:
 
im pretty sure it'll charge. One of my usb slots isnt updated or doesnt have the proper drivers and is 1.0 im pretty sure and still charges my ipod

i have a late 2001 ibook, with two usb 1.1 ports. i use both an ipod shuffle and an ipod video, and i don't have a usb charger, so all i can say is that usb 1.1 better be able to charge!

meaning yes, it can. check your apple system profiler to see if your usb port is powered or not. some are, some aren't. if it isn't powered you can always return the ipod.
