I have an Apple Watch 6 with several Apple brand Magnetic Charging Cables. I use this with two Anker charging bricks and one Anker power bank. I usually charge my watch overnight and have it in nightstand mode so I can check the time when I wake up. A couple of weeks ago I started getting a "Charging Not Supported" message on my watch with all three charging devices and all three cables. When I initially connect the cable the connection seems fine, but some time during the night the connection fails and I get the "Not Supported" message. Sometimes, the watch discharges to the point where the nightstand mode is in red instead of green.

Where does the fault lie here? With the watch, with the cables or with the charging devices? Since it happens with three different cables and with three different charging devices I have to assume fault lies with the watch, but why?

Anything I can do about it?

Based on the scientific trouble-shooting method you say, it must be the watch. I'd check with an Apple "genius". (I have to use quotes because I feel like I know as much as they do most times. lol)

Can’t be sure from your post, but I would make sure you try one charge with the original cable that came with your watch. I’d also try to find and use an Apple charging cube like the ones that they used to include with their iPhones. maybe a friend or family member has a watch that you could use their charger setup just to rule out you equipment.

Are you on Watch OS 9? I'm on Watch OS 8.7 charging my S6 exclusively on an Anker power station or an Anker power bank using an Apple cable and never have any issues.. I've been using Anker power with an Apple cable since I purchased the watch 2 years ago and have never had that notification. Wonder if it's a bug with Watch OS 9.. Might check this thread:

I live in Northeast Thailand, so no nearby "geniuses". I'll have to rely on your expertise.

I made an error in the original post. At my condo I'm using an original single port Apple charging brick and a magnetic charging cable purchased from Apple. This is where I first noticed the "Charging Not Supported" error. All of the cables I have are Apple branded cables. I do have Anker charging bricks, but no third party cables.

I am on OS9. But that was installed in just the past few days. The "Charging Not Supported" error predates that. I read the thread you cited. Fortunately, I do not experience the problems mentioned in that thread.

Must be the watch itself. I do have an Ultra on order.

I updated my watch to 9.1 and have had the same message appear a couple of times while charging overnight. I'm using be Apple charging puck plugged into an Anker charging station which has never had an issue until updating to 9.1. I'd have to say it must be a bug in 9.1 because 8.7 never had this issue. Hopefully a future update will correct the problem. Having the charger shut off after indicating that it is properly charging only to wake up to see the message and a watch that hasn't charged is not a feature I want from an Watch OS9

Not long after I made the OP my Ultra arrived. I charge it with the same cables and bricks as the 6 with no problem at all.
