Charging the new Macbook plus iPhone and iPad not working

I have the Digital A/V adapter and recently bought a 4-port USB 3.0 hub to plug in to the usb slot on the AV adapter in order to charge my iPad mini and iPhone 6 plus at the same time. I have the Computer power plugged in as well.

My iPhone charges but my iPad says it is connect but not charging and every once in a while I get a notice that it won't charge because it takes too much power.

Will I only be able to do this with a dock that is independently powered?

Likely or you may just need a USB C mains charger with a higher output like Google`s Chromebook with I think is around 60W.

You need a powered USB hub to be able to charge devices like an iPad.

The one USB port on the A/V Multiport adapter will not be able to provide enough power for charging both an iPhone and an iPad. I've even found it to be quite slow for charging an iPhone alone. For that you need (as suggested above) a powered hub. It has nothing to do with the 29w charger.

Another option for you, if you want to minimize the number of cables you carry, is to get something like this

That will allow you to charge all 3 devices at the same time, although charging the Macbook will take longer this way.

Personally, I'm waiting for these devices to include some USB-C ports, and to hopefully double as a hub at the same time!
