iPod touch Charging via USB bad for battery?

A friend told me that charging an iPod touch using the USB cable connected to the PC is bad for the battery and that a dedicated charger should be used instead. Is this true?

bad for the battery in what way? I charge through the computer and through a charger and seem not to have issues...then, again, i have a mac
