Charging via wall plug

When I charge my ip4 overnight it automatically turns on. Is there a way to charge and the fone stays turned off ?

its been this way since the first iPhone.

PLug it in and then shut it off.

I would prefer to shut it down while it charges.

Regarding the advice to 'plug it in and shut it off', will the fone continue to charge "

I get lots of e mails and the notifications beep is annoying on a night.

Suppose my options are to turn it on silent or turn the airplane mode on.

Just turn it off. It will still charge.

When you plug it in it automiatically turns on after you plug it in you can turn it off and it will still charge. That's what I do.
