Hello,

I noticed that the charging wire for my MacBook became exposed with the insulation ripped open (presumably from my office chair wheels rolling over them). I can't find any visible tears in the metal wire itself, but again, I'm just eyeballing it here. I am not knowledgeable in the field of electronic charger wires; if there is a tear, will it pose a risk, such as starting a fire? I am thinking of just wrapping it around with electrical tape and resume using it like normal. Is that a good idea? I attached some important pictures that will help your understanding.

Thank you for your time,

Mally

Do what I do: wrap electrical tape around it and then use shrink-tube to make the repair more pemanent. I've done this in several places with one of my chargers and it's been fine for over 2 years. The first tear appeared in the cable 4 years ago.

Its been 8 years and that is electrically unsafe. Stop being a scrooge and possibly setting your house on fire and buy a new charger!

Actually serious, any workplace electrical safety test/tag would end up with that thing going in the bin.
