I am now receiving a notice that "Charging with this accessory is not supported" even when there is nothing plugged into the device. Anyone know what this is about? I don't think it's water because the device never goes near water.
 
Have you tried cleaning the port, with like tooth stick or something simillar? It should atleast be a softer material than the metal pins so that you dont damage the connector pins. I have experienced before that sometimes lint can bouild up and hold "micromoisture" and cause a kind of short circut in the Lightning port (also in USB-C ports).
