Warner Bros. has no reason to hire him back. They can do another year with a new guy or not and save money. It will still get ratings and stations that have bought it in syndication are contractually obligated to buy a ninth season if its produced.

Does anyone else get the feeling that this is a deliberate act a la joaquin phoenix's "I'm still here"? As crazy as Sheen's rants and behaviors are, there always seems to be an underlying kernel of truth to them, and I can't help but think that he is poking fun at himself and the industry.

After all, if I was stuck on an asinine show for 8+ years, I might try to have a little fun and stoke my publicity. It's hardly like he has the market cornered on cocaine and hooker use in hollywood - he's just more forthcoming about it.

Perhaps I'm giving the man too much credit. I do love his cooking show, though...
