Chat in facebook not work??

Every time I try and chat with someone it says the following:

"Your message could not be delivered at this time. Please try again later."

Anyone know how to fix this? I know it has nothing to do with people being off line because my wife is in the other room on her account.

Edit: I should mention that im talking about the facebook App.

The native Facebook is riddled with bugs. It constantly crashes to the home screen, unable to pull down mini-feeds, unable to log in, etc, etc.
Keep it, in case of updates, but use the web app instead. Okay, there's no chat function, but at least it's stable.

the same thing happened to me, but i was offline on the main website. Once I became available, i was able to chat

I was just chatting with a buddy a couple days ago on it. Unless this is a new problem chat works for me on facebook. Try deleting the app and re-installing maybe

Fixed! Apparently if you have your Chat turned off on facebook it will disable it for your iphone as well.
