I am looking for a cheap alternative to Sprint for an iPad Mini 4 that I used with Sprint for a while. I thought about Straight Talk, but my biggest gripe with them is that they renew every 30 days and not ever month; since most months have 31 days, that means the renewal date drifts earlier every month, and I hate that. I am not a heavy data user, I use WiFi most of the time, so 2GB would probably be enough.

You probably could bring it to Ting, and it would just work on their CDMA network (which is, underneath, just the Sprint network). You'll probably have to purchase a Ting sim (typically $9, sometimes on sale for as little as $1). If you use the link http://linux.ting.com/ you will get a promo that dumps $25 in service credit into your account. Ting is pay for what you use ($10/GB) plus $6 per line, so your total cost will likely be either $16/month or $26/month, depending on whether you exceed 1GB in a given month. I've been a very satisfied Ting user for three years now; prices are fair, and customer service is head and shoulders above any other MVNO I've ever used.

Another MVNO that I'm currently trying out with our kids is TPO.com. They're also running Sprint, and have pretty decent pricing, though it is more attractive for a phone (since all the middle and upper tiers include unlimited voice and text messaging).
