Hello,

My parents computer just broke down (an old blueberry imac). A new imac at 999 is a bit to expensive for them to handle. I was thinking of getting them a macmini at 599 and a dell monitor for 200 dollars or so. Is that a smart thing to do? Do people have experience using dell monitors?

I know that my dad is intersting in video chat though. What is the oldest mac that could handle ichat av and have a built in isight? or is there a better cheaper solution?

Thank you,
David

I'd go with a Mac Mini, monitor of choice and iSight camera. The built-in iSight cameras are great but the add-ons get the job done just as well.

I'd pick up a refurb 17" iMac for about the same money as your Mini/Dell monitor solution. At least you'll get the iSight included then.

Yeah go with the 'furb, I think you'll get more bang for your buck. BUT if you do wanna go with the mini, wait untill the line improves.
