I'm looking at upgrading both the HDD and RAM in my MBP and am basically looking for the best prices (UK) that MR members have found as everything i've come across so far seems a little expensive.
I currently have 120gb HDD and 2gb RAM and am looking at upgrading to 4gb ram and 250gb hdd.

Any advice?

What are you considering a good price?

Macwarehouse has HDs for £55; ram for £30/stick. Price out reputable sellers on ebay if macwarehouse isn't cheap enough.

If your in Manchester, UK then your in luck!!

On Upper Brook Street there's a company called MicroDirect who can sell you most things you need.

I believe the OCZ 4GB Kit (2x2048) SO DIMM 667MHz PC2 5400 would work in your MBP just fine, for less than £53 notes (inc vat), it's a bargin!

There's also the Corsair 4GB kit (SO DIMM 667MHz PC2 5300) which is an exact match for Macs, comes in less than £55 (inc vat)

Alternatively, there's Crucial 4Gb kit for £55.82 inc. VAT

Western Digital Scorpio 250GB SATA, 5400rpm for £58.74 inc vat

Western Digital Scorpio 320GB SATA, 5400rpm for £70.49 inc vat

Forgot about MicroDirect and had no idea there even was a 320gb shallow enough to fit the MBP, i'll go for that.. at £125 for the two, I can't really moan.

Anyone verify if the 320gb WD is any good? fast etc?
I was wondering about whether or not it was better to go with smaller 7200rpm or larger 5400rpm?? is there a noticeable difference in speed?
I don't do much video editing.. generally just a lot of pshop/illustrator/flash etc.

I'm using one right now!! Though I'm using the 5400 model (blue), the 7200 model (black) is new and should to be faster!! MicroDirect doesn't have the 7200rpm version yet! If your happy to wait, then wait.. I'm sure they have it on order...

Depends on what you do, i guess..
I'm using mine for Commercial Media & Graphics, seems fine so far!!
