I took a bet and ordered this cheap infrared remote for the iphone even though it didn't state the iphone 4 was compatible. I received it in the post this morning after waiting for it for four weeks to be delivered.

It works really well.
First off the infrared sensor is located at the bottom of the small port which attaches to the 30 pin dock connector. This includes two small volume up/down buttons to manually increase/decrease volume. It has a 3.5 mm jack on the side to attach a cable from your speakers/amp etc.

The remote is lightweight and has play/pause, volume up/down and skip next/back. It works perfectly from a distance of 10 metres and the sensor does not have to be showing for it to receive the signal.

For this cheap its worth it if you can't or wont spend the money on apple universal dock.
