For the time being, I will continue to use the Apple branded products. At the moment, for myself, the extra $10.00 premium for the lightening cables is worth the peace of mind. YMMV

Guess what? Many "official Apple" wires also exploded in the past.
You think that only aftermarket acccesories malfunction and Apples dont?

But if the only things you can show that did the damage are Apple, Apple is more likely to replace for free.

True, but that wasnt the point.
All these people saying your phone will blow up and catch on fire using aftermarket wires is nonsense.
I been using monoprice and other usb wires now for years without a single problem. Still working and going strong after many years.
