I'm looking to get a Mac Pro, but I don't have more than around $1500 to spend. I'm fine with the cheapest Mac Pro. How low can you go with them? And where can I find one for around that price? The cheapest one on eBay is $1900.

If you can find two of them let me know I have watched just about every auction on Ebay for the last 6-8 months looking for one and that $1900 you see is the lowest I have ever seen one go for if my memory serves me well.

Yeah, that's all I've seen too. Does ANYBODY know where we can find a $1500 Mac Pro?

craigslist, but beware. maybe purchase with a finance option from a retailer (look around for offers).

I just looked on craigslist for my area, most of them sell for about $1700. I sent an email to a few people, offering them $1550, but I'm not sure if they'll go for it.

Some nut was selling one local to me for $1000 on Craigslist, I emailed him right off to buy it and he replied he was out of town until Saturday afternoon. I emailed him again Saturday morning and he said he had sold it to someone else.

The nerve! I wanted to flip it for $2K... (2.66x4 w/10GB RAM and 2x500GB Drives)

Probably fake. :)

how about a quad G5? I bet you can get one with a good PCI express card for that kind dough.

Or do you need intel?

I'll almost certainly take some flak for suggesting it, but have you considered building or buying a Hackintosh? I'm sure something like the Psystar OpenPro would be comparable to the single-processor base Mac Pro, and for substantially less coin...

If cost is a major issue, it might be worth pursuing?

Whoever is looking for a mac pro that cheap is in luck..

my friend just sold me 5 of his mac pros that he had for his home music studio because he was about to lose his house and sold them to me for a mortgage payment.

I'd sell the mac pros for around 1500 depending on where you live since there's no way i need that many computers with that much power.

PM me if interested.

You can find base config 2.66GHz systems on ebay from time to time for $1500, you just have to be patient.

Checked Amazon Marketplace?

FWIW, I got my Mac Pro (first gen., 2.66x4 cores) for $2000 a year and a half ago from the Marketplace - looks like it was 'open box' which, when I did the warranty check, meant 3 months old - but Apple gave me a new date of sale for the warranty (and then I bought an eBay AppleCare).

Worth a shot.

the amazon marketplace has them for $2400 right now.

When I was looking to purchase my MP, I originally wanted a used 2.0x4 or 2.66x4, since I needed the RAM, storage, and card expandability more than the processors.

After looking around, I realized that the used prices were not justified in my opinion. I began to look at the 2.8x4 refurbs, but ended up getting the 2.8x8 refurb because the price difference was very small. The 8-cores allowed me to take much more advantage of virtualization, and now I could not be happier.

I would assume there will be a flood of used 2.66 MPs after the next update, for those who choose to skip a generation between updates.

Hello forum! I am new here.

I was searching Google with the query "cheap mac pro" and stumbled across this thread. I read that a user that posted had several Mac Pros that they would be willing to sell. I hastily joined, as my attempts to find a Mac Pro have been less than... productive.. until this point.

Why would I like to have one, you ask?

Long story short.. I bought a computer (not Apple) for $5400. It doesn't work, and the company will not give me my money back. So... I figured this time around.. I'd go with Apple. But since I'm already out that much money, I really don't have a whole lot of cash to work with...

Advice?

Was it a ALien Ware?

Was it a ALien Ware?

Yes. The brand new m17x.

I had always wanted one, but.. now.. heh. It kind of shot down all my dreams, you know? I spent years pining over one.. and now.. here I have one.. that can only be used as a paperweight.

And they refuse to do anything about it.
