Cheap options for replacing 3GS display and housing?

I'm upgrading my phone and want to give my 3GS to my mother who's still on a basic phone on prepaid. Unfortunately, I tend to just throw my phone into my bag with my keys and other random objects so the display and bezel are scratched. It still works like a charm, though. Is there a cheap way to give it a new display and housing? It's been out of warranty for a while, so I don't think I can exchange it at an Apple store.
