Cheap RAID tower for MBP

I am looking for some kind of hard disk casing of up to 4 disk bays to house my hard disks. I have checked some popular solution such as Mercury Elite, Drobo, Datatale etc...

The major setback is the price and unclear performance reviews. For sure, I am looking for the cheapest yet relatively fast solution.

I am using a macbook pro. Firewire preferred.

Which MBP? On most 15/17" MBPs, fastest solution would be eSATA, not firewire.

Price is what they are, theres no way around that.

Im assuming a RAID 5 setup? Is that something you really need?

Whats you goal? Is this for backup? Work files? Or?

Since you seem to be on a limited budget (how much?) maybe you need to think about a plan B...

exactly what 'Badger' said we need to know what it is for if it is for back up why not a really fast NAS over giagbit ethernet if it is just for archive data and youl only need to pull one little file of it once a week then it is totally different to a soloution that you'd use to do heavy 4k vidio editing in final cut pro for if it is the latter then they do cost what the cost unfortunatly so yea background info and budget would be really helpfull thanks!:)
