Hello,

Thinking of upgrading my entire boot volume (not just OS/apps like I have right now) to a SSD, and the only 2 I can find at decent prices in the 500GB range are Crucial's m4, and some Vertex 2s (Pro).

Any other brands that can be competitive at low price points?

Thanks

Loa

The pricing in Sweden lists these four disks as the most affordable for 512GB.

OCZ octane (sata 2, cheapest of the four drives)
OCZ agility 3 (don't touch this! it has sandforce 2xxx-controller. )
Crucial m4
Samsung 830 (most expensive, $830)

they cost roughly the same price which is about 800 +/- 35 dollars including taxes (they cost around $850 on newegg.com).

From this list I would personally choose the Samsung-disk but that's because I trust their reliability and they also perform very well. The OCZ octane disk is pretty new but have shown good results on for example the anandtech review recently. However, since it is new there isn't so much info regarding the stability of the new Indlinix controller. I don't think that OCZ can afford another "SF2xxx-gate" :)
