Can't risk losing $600 just from a drop again.

Title says it all, thin and cheap case for 3GS.

What's your recommendation?

Thin & Cheap criteria at at odds with you not wanting to damage your iphone.

In my experience, thin does not provide any drop protection.

Okay well recommendations for some drop safety but still fairly thin?

I recently purchased two cases from www.plusthing.com, My boyfriend and I are very pleased with the bright colored covers. The textured silicone helps our hands hold them firmly. Their service was prompt and the price incredibly low!

Why does everyone keep posting the same thing
"I want a thin case that has good drop protection"

You can't get both, there will always be a tradeoff

My recommendation for a good all around case is the incase slider +power support anti glare shield for complete protection
