I just bought the iPad 2 and I've been looking at cheaper alternatives to Apple's smart covers. I think I saw some at Deal Extreme. Does anyone here have any recommendations on the cheaper alternatives? Are they just as good as Apple's covers?

Marware micro shell folio case is what I have..sexy case and it has the auto on and off feature. Only gripe with it is the magnets aren't as strong as the smart cover in keeping the lid closed. Not that big of an issue though...AND it's a back case and front cover all in one. Pricey if you buy from marware' but amazon is your friend in this case..think I paid 45 with 2 day shipping

Do you really think they are genuine for £9.99?

I have had this product for just over a month and bought because it is purporting to be a genuine Apple product. Indeed it even comes in packaging that looks real, having the Apple logo etc. However, it has fallen apart and I do not believe that this is the genuine article at all.

Some of the magnets are missing which means you can't make the iPad stand without the cover falling apart. Compared to the original Apple SmartCover it has some magnets missing. Not recommended.

How does the material feel like? Similar to the real smart covers?

Yup! It feels the same, but then again, I've only had my iPad & knockoff Smart Cover for less than a month. But I'd buy again.

Another vote for the Marware Microshell Folio. It acts exactly the same as a smart cover but includes a case for the back. The magnets might not be as strong as the real smart cover, but I haven't had any problems with it. It also has three viewing angles instead of the smart cover's two. I got mine for £25 from Amazon, so it's a lot cheaper than a smart cover.

if you really want a smart cover. Newegg has some deals right now where some refurb ones are 19.99 and then a 19.99 rebate. So essentially they are free.

I saw this morning when checking my email.

EDIT: Looks like they sold out that quick. Was on there an hour or so ago.
