Is there a diagramming and chart app like OmniGraffle, but much cheaper, and also has a companion iPad app by any chance? Omni's feature set is way too much for my needs, and the ones I have found so far seem to be only for OS X or only for iOS.

Thanks for the suggestion! But unfortunately this app doesn't seem to have an iPad version as well, unless I missed it somewhere.
It was worth a shot :(

OmniGraffle is the only one I know of that has an OSX and iOS version.
Given the cost of both, it is an expensive proposition. I actually own both but I can see why the OP wants a less expensive alternative

I already have Omnigraffle, but being bundled with an older Mac that I plan to sell soon I either have to buy a new Omnigraffle license or buy something else (I do find Omnigraffle priced rather high at $100, or $200 for the "pro" version).

Today Macupdate Promo has a $12 deal for Diagrammix (instead of $20) so I gave the demo a go. It looks OK, but I don't find it shapes very appealing. I prefer the clean and simple shapes from Omnigraffle much more pleasing, but perhaps this is something that can be edited in Diagrammix.
As for my existing Omnigraffle files I couldn't import them into Diagrammix and I don't know of an export format which other apps can handle if I need to edit my documents at some stage. Then again I could just as well export my existing Omnigraffle files to a graphic format and start off fresh.

But alas, at least according to this thread, that there are no real alternatives to Omnigraffle, or does that only apply to when you need to have a Mac and iPad version of the software? I don't need an iPad version, so anything which works on the Mac is fine. However, I wasn't exactly blown away by Diagrammix. Anything else out there, but costing less than $100?

The OP was looking for a solution that was for both platforms, the iPad and the Mac. Diagrammix fails to fit that need
