Try t-Mobile 1 line is $70 unlimited talk text and data with 500mb hotspot. Additional GB available not sure of the price .

only 500 mb for hotspot will not work for me... if i pay another $10 for each gig that around $100 a month !

T-mobile has a $30 prepaid plan that gives 5GB, 100 minutes, and unlimited texts. You can only get it by signing up online. It tethers for free as long as you don't update your phone to the newly released T-mobile carrier profile which now forces you to officially pay for tethering. But even if you had to pay for it, it's just $15 extra so your total would be $45 per month and you can tether up to 5GB. It doesn't give you many minutes to talk, but if you go over, it's just $0.10 per minute, so might still be the most economical plan. It would rely on you having an unlocked device already that you could use with the plan.

cheap means any thing which is a good value for standalone plan (no family share etc)

$70 for unlimited every thing from tmobile sounds decent .. but is there a 500 mb cap for tethering?

The OP would probably need to go on the Post paid $70 plan. I have the $70 pre paid and have no option to but hotspot nor do I have 500MB free.

I have this plan on two iPhones also and it does not include 500 MB tethering but to buy hot post, it is $15.

Here are your options:

$70 for unlimited data (on the phone), 500MB of tethering included
$80 for unlimited data (on the phone), 2.5GB of tethering included
$90 for unlimited data (on the phone), 4.5GB of tethering included

OR

All data can be tethered, data speeds throttled after reaching the data limit

$50 for 500MB of data
$60 for 2.5GB of data
$70 for 4.5GB of data
$80 for 6.5GB of data
+$10 per 2GB of data up to 12GB

Tmobile.?

Wouldn't it be cheaper to get a mifi or an ipad with a prepaid tethering plan? Then you could get the iphone on whatever carrier suits you best.

I think this would be the cheapest way to get LTE + tethering. With an iPad you might not need to tether a laptop to it after all.

Either of those seems like your best bet. If you don't use a lot of phone data go with the $60 plan....if you do, go for the $70 plan.

Personally I use less than a gig a month using spotify, the web here and there, and just facebooking.
