So, I need an iPhone for T-Mobile. First, if you unlock, do you get Cydia(or Icy) and Installer along with the Unlock. Or is it that if I Jailbreak, I can't unlock. Next, does anybody know where I can find an iPhone for cheap. I'm talking like $100-$250. $300 at the most. MAYBE $400! Last, I have an iPod Touch and a Samsung Behold. Do you think it's worth getting an iPhone, unlocking it, and all that other stuff vs my two other things.(In a way I'm saying iPhone vs iPod Touch & Samsung Behold) What do you think? Thanks.:apple:

It is TOTALLY worth it. And as far as the iPhone, check your local craigslist, or try to find a deal on eBay.

I had an iPod Touch 2nd gen and a Samsung Instinct, Google G1, and Palm Centro, and now I just have my iPhone. I love it.

Why don't you sell both iPod Touch and the Samsung Behold, get a used iphone.

Is it because you had to sell all those things to pay for the iPhone? ;)

Well...

I had to pay:

$200 for T-Mobile ETF (Was on it for 2.5 months.. hehe)
$140 for AT&T first month bill
$240 for iPhone 3G and case
=$680

My buddy gave me $100, sold the G1 for $350, iPod Touch for $190, and got a $60 AT&T credit.

So I didn't turn out too bad.

You can find a decent 2G iphone for around $250-300 on ebay
Obviously with Tmobile you wont need or be able to use the 3G so save yourself some money there.
In order to unlock your phone you have to jailbreak. And when you do the jailbreak you can click to add Cydia and installer to your phone.
The rest is simple.

THAT WAS SMART TOO!! Thanks everyone!

Ok so, 3G is like EDGE but 'faster' right? So can I use it at the mall and on the way to the mall or something?

Yes you can use it anywhere you want*. Except for at the mall. It doesn't work at the mall.

*Coverage not available in all areas.

Noooooo. So, I should get the fat, ugly, iPhone 2G over the sleek design of the iPhone 3G?

Did you read this thread? :)

To downgrade the baseband, you need iphone with bootloader 5.8 ,which is for iphone 3g manufacture before 2008 Oct, and in order to find out the bootloader version, you need SSH and mobile terminal install on the iphone.

My point is easier to find an iphone with OS2.2 than iphone with OS2.2.1/bootloader 5.8, but on the other hand, you can always use unlock-sim-adapter.

Oooooo. I don't get it!

3G is faster internet but you can only use 3G if you're on AT&T.
Tmobiles 3G frequency is not compatible with the iphone 3G so either way you wont be able to use it. Only 2G on Tmobile.
If you want you can get a 3G but its obviously $200 or more extra for nothing.

True true. I wish I had thought of this advice. Now who thinks I should rewire my iPod Touch with some extra internal hardware to try and make it an iPhone. Even though it would be stupid. But I love my iPod Touch!

I hope you know I was being sarcastic. Anyways I'd just thought you'd like to know that the iPhone 3G is actually thicker than the 2G iPhone. It just has tapered edges to pretend to be thinner.

Hmmm smart!
