Is it possible to remotely check the activation lock of an Apple Watch using a website?

I am asking because someone is trying to sell me an used Apple watch (seller is remote, so cannot meet in person) who included a screenshot from a site called imei24.com whereby you can enter the serial number for the watch (not the phone with which it is paired) to check the activation lock status. I have not heard about this before, and a quick web search did not turn up anything reliable...

Here is a screencap:

Is this real? I know it is possible to check activation lock for iPhones via some third-party sites, but they usually use IMEI and not serial number, and their coverage is not uniform across different carriers.

There is no way to check the activation lock for the Apple Watch on Apple's website. I cannot speak for any other website other than Apples.

These sites used to front end the Apple iCloud site to remove the lock. This feature is now gone!

This is what used to happen: Simply by sending the serial number, we can remove the iCloud lock. This can be verified by entering the 12-digit alphanumeric on the iCloud.com website here:

https://www.icloud.com/activationlock/ ( removed function )

Apple has since removed this capability, and Apple has not announced a replacement process. Please use these web sites with caution.

The only way that currently works:

  • On a computer, go to iCloud.com and sign in with your Apple ID.
  • Go to Find My iPhone.
  • Select All Devices, then click your Apple Watch.
  • Click Erase Apple Watch. Select Next until the device is erased.
  • Click next to your Apple Watch.
