I'm doubting how much GB in RAM memory to buy for my new mac mini or macbook device. I'm a standard user, so I don't require a high amount of memory. I do however tend to have many tabs and other apps open. I can check the activity monitor to see how much RAM I'm using at that moment, but...

Is there a way to check your historical data of total GB memory used?

This way I know if 8GB is enough or I need to upgrade, thanks.

If you can afford the next tier memory config then do so. Given macOS updates and software updates over the life span your purchase, the next tier will serve you well. If you can't even afford the next tier memory config, then your question is moot. If you're waffling between upgrade storage or upgraded memory, pick memory. You can always add external storage later.
