El Capitan and the programs that run on it (including browsers) is really get more and more marginalized, even this year.

So far, Amazon Prime Video and ABC online streaming can no longer be done using the browsers available for El Capitan (at least the browsers I tried.)

Most HTML5 pages do work but some specialized websites do object.

Aren't those browsers too far out of date, so that you need to use alternatives for security and web standards?

Looks like CSS maybe not loading properly. Try private mode, if that doesn't solve it try creating a new user & see what happens there.

OP:

I'm going to take a GUESS that El Capitan just won't support web browsers "modern enough" to work with many online commercial sites.

Time for a new (or newer) Mac.
BUT... there could be an alternative:

I'd suggest an upgrade to OS 10.14 "Mojave" by using dosdude1's "Mojave Patcher".
Get it here, with instructions for install (it's not difficult):

Mojave isn't "the latest and greatest" any more.
In fact, it's getting fairly "old", too.
But it still works well enough for me using a 2018 Mini.

Might be a "good enough for now" solution for you.
