Check what network iPhone is locked to without inserting SIM ?

I bought new iPhone 3GS from someone on craigslist and i need to know what network it is unlocked to. I am guessing there are links online where we can put IMEI number and get the unlock status right ? I do not have any normal SIM and i only have MicroSIM from Tmobile but no adapter so cannot insert that into the 3GS.
Any suggestions on where i can check the unlock status ?
I know for a fact that iPhone is locked but need the details from somewhere where i can put the IMEI number.

Oddly enough I sold an unlocked 3gs on craigslist today.

BTW - if you're in the US the only network that this phone COULD be LOCKED to is AT&T.

Yes i am in US only and i did find status on dev.mk but the only thing this website says is LOCKED and warranty date. Nothing else.
I want to know the extra details like network and other details.
I guess there is paid service on ebay.com for 0.99$ too. May be i will have to take that.

If it's unlocked, that means it can be used on any compatible network.

If you're in the US, and you bought it on Craigslist, I'm assuming the seller is also in the US, so I'm sure it's an AT&T phone. The iPhone 3GS was and is sold for only one network in America and that's AT&T. The only way it could be locked to another network is if he bought it overseas.

It's unlocked to any gsm network worldwide.

Ok got it checked. Locked to AT&T.

You can get the IMEI unlock from numerous eBay sellers, most charge under 10 dollars.
