I've had my Mac Pro for a little over a year now, great machine! I use Bootcamp 99% of the time and I wish I had the time to bother about AHCI...

Now since I use BootCamp 99% of the time I play video games etc.. I installed Folding@Home, why not use my idle time for a good cause? I started monitoring my system and noticed CPU temps of 80-90C (using Folding@Home 6/12 logical processors), that's A LOT for a computer and the fans sound a bit louder but I thought it wasn't enough to cool the CPU.

I came across this blog post http://pindelski.org/Photography/2015/06/03/fan-management-in-the-mac-pro-part-xxix/

The user installed Macs Fan Control http://www.crystalidea.com/macs-fan-control

And set his fans to a predetermined speed (which I disagree with), what I did was based on temperature ranges the fans will speed-up, attached are my settings:

BOOSTA - this is the fan that cools the CPU directly, custom setting: 55-100C
INTAKE - this is the fan in front of the Mac Pro, pulls cool air in, custom setting: 66-90C
EXHAUST - this the fan on the back, pushing hot air out, custom setting: 66-90C

I left the rest automatic, but as you can see, they barely spin... unless you are using the GPU a lot I would set a custom range the PCI fan.

Now my CPU temps are around 69-70C with 60% CPU load using Folding@Home :)
