Checkerboard Display pops up

I am using a 2010 White unibody MacBook, and every once in a while a checkerboard display flashes. When it does i can see my desktop image through even if another window is open. Is this graphics card related? Can something be failing in my mac? I posted a pic. Thanks in advance
