Checking ATT online availability?

I can upgrade my phone via the ATT upgrade online, is there any way to know if they actually have any in stock, or am I just better off doing it all in a store?

You can check AT&T store availability on the website by looking at the page for each device.

Shop the AT&T website. When you select an iPhone color, below the add to cart button there is a link to check for in store availability.
