I bought a brand new 15" (base model) MacBook Pro and I was wondering what are common defects that I should be looking for? I remember complaints about LCDs from other people, but how do I go about testing these things? Are there any other common issues in Apple laptops or the MBP in specific? Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks!

Install all your things and see if it's working everything.

Check the yellowscreen defect (search on google for it)

Turn it off / on a few times.

All I can think of (the problems i've gotten in my mac-days)

Agree. Basically you want to stress test it. Play some movie. Rip some CD. Fire up every application you've installed while browsing the net, sending email. Put it to sleep, wake it up, shut it down, turn it on. And don't forget to fully charge the battery then run it dry, repeat 2 or 3 more times to make sure the adapter and battery are good. If nothing goes wrong in a week then you should be safe. :D
