In Finder, if I select a bunch of files and want to know how many I've selected, then I either click "Get Info" or show the status bar.

Yes?

But since the status bar isn't visible, I have to "Get Info". However, it opens a bunch of "Get Info" windows instead of a single window that tells me how many items I've selected.

Without making the status bar viewable, is there another way I can find out how many items I've selected?

Hold down the OPTION key while pressing CMD+I.
And the Status Bar can be visible permanently via Finder > Menu Bar > VIEW > SHOW STATUS BAR.
