How does one check the warranty on a mbp now under apple's new warranty lookup tool. Before you enter the serial number and it would tell you its warranty status and when it ends. Now it only tells you if the machine is already registered. If one buys a new machine privately how does one check its warranty? I guess just call apple and ask them - If one buys off ebay or the likes no warranty info is displayed until apple registers the machine. Before, when the machine left the factory it was assigned a warranty date which could be updated with a proof of purchase reciept. Any thought ? thanks

When I enter mine, it says:

MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2008)
IMEI: Serial number: BLAHBLAHBLAH Check another serial number
Coverage: AppleCare Protection Plan More information

If I click the "More information" link (to the right of Coverage: AppleCare Protection Plan), it shows the actual dates.
