So if everything goes right in the next few weeks I'm going to be moving from the Quad Cities to Chicago. This would be my first big city living in, and the first time I'm going to be on my own. Is there anything I should check out, avoid, tips or tricks for living in the windy city? I'm really excited about this adventure :D

Steve

I'm so jealous.

I'm stuck in the crumby UK. :(

You're jealous! I'd much rather be across the pond! But coming from small town Kansas to the QC was a big jump, (the Quadcities has about 400,000 people for those who don't know) and now I'm going to the biggest city in the midwest! I'm really nervous but excited at the same time.

Whereabouts will you be living?

I don't really no, I'll be working downtown and would like to keep rent below 1000 a month with all utilities, I have a "Square" I would like to live in which consists of Farthest north "W. Montrose Ave." Farthest west "N. Western Ave." Farthest south "W. North Ave." Farthest east the lake :D

Welcome! I predict you'll fall in love with this place. It's a wonderful city with so much opportunity. There's no reason to be nervous, you'll find that people here are extremely helpful and friendly. I've been here almost 16 years now, and I don't plan to leave.

Make sure you hit up the Wiener Circle at around 2 or 3 in the morning on the weekends after a night at the clubs/bars. They're really nice there :D

Also, head over to the Threadless Store for some cool t-shirts......

That just has bad news all over it :p. I'll check out the threadless store, I'm a big fan of their shirts.

No, seriously. No fooling. Go to the Wiener Circle. It really is a fun place. They have great chili dogs and fries. It's just one of those places with hilarious atmosphere. I don't want to ruin it by telling you what to expect. I'm sure one of the Chicagoans (leekohler?) will back me up on this.

Oh, and there's lots of fun bars/lounges/restaurants to go to at Rush 'n Division. If you want good Italian, and lots of it, check out Carmine's. Giant portions and great atmosphere.

chicago is a great city. love it here and this is my home. don't think i could exactly be happy anywhere else. and most people here are wonderful.

if you have questions about neighborhoods etc feel free to ask, and i'll do my best, between Lee and i we know the different areas pretty well.
