Chimes then nothing

I just purchased the new macbook air 11" 128gb about a month ago every thing was going good until Sunday when I could not move the curser so i restarted the air. The air just chimed then just went to grey screen I tried every thing I could but just kept doing same thing. Just wondering if anyone else has come across this problem. My wife took it to Apple store on Tuesday they replaced it but did not tell her what was wrong with it. I wonder what went wrong.
